How to Plan an Italian Dolomites Elopement

For the laid back + romantic

How to Elope in The Italian Dolomites

The Italian Dolomites offer one of the most breathtaking and dramatic backdrops for an adventurous elopement. Here’s how to plan an unforgettable experience in this stunning alpine region.

Why Choose the Dolomites for Your Elopement?

  • Dramatic Alpine Scenery: Towering peaks, serene lakes, and picturesque mountain villages.

  • Adventure-Friendly: Perfect for couples who love hiking, exploring, and the great outdoors.

Legal Requirements for Eloping in Italy

  • Obtain a valid passport.

  • Depending on your nationality, you may need a Nulla Osta (certificate of no impediment).

  • Schedule a civil ceremony at a local town hall, or opt for a symbolic ceremony for simplicity.

  • Hire a local wedding planner or officiant to assist with legal paperwork and logistics.

How to Access the Dolomites from Major Airports

  • Closest Airports: Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) or Verona Villafranca Airport (VRN).

  • From Venice or Verona: Rent a car and drive 2-3 hours to towns like Cortina d’Ampezzo or Ortisei. Alternatively, use public transportation with regional trains and local buses.

Finding Accommodations in the Dolomites

  • Mountain Lodges (Rifugios): For a rustic and adventurous stay with panoramic views.

  • Luxury Resorts: Opt for high-end resorts in areas like Alta Badia or Cortina d’Ampezzo.

  • Chalets and Cabins: Cozy accommodations perfect for intimate, nature-focused elopements.

Planning Your Elopement Ceremony

  • Iconic Spots: Consider lakes like Lago di Braies or alpine meadows with mountain views. Always check for permit requirements.

  • Seasonal Considerations: Spring and fall offer mild weather and fewer crowds, while summer is popular but busier.

Tips for a Smooth Elopement Experience

Hire a local planner to handle logistics and ensure legal requirements are met and visit your chosen location in advance if possible to scout ceremony spots and meet with vendors.

How to Elope in the Italian Countryside (Especially Tuscany, Because Duh)

How to Elope in the Italian Countryside (Especially Tuscany, Because Duh)

ITALY WEDDING RESOURCES

How to Elope in the Italian Countryside (Especially Tuscany, Because Duh)

Let’s be real: not everyone dreams of a big traditional wedding. If you’re more into golden sunsets, epic views, and exchanging vows somewhere that feels like a scene from a romantic indie film, eloping in Tuscany might just be your thing.

It’s intimate, it’s intentional, and it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth to say “I do” — just the two of you or with your favourite people.

Here’s the lowdown on how to pull off the most romantic countryside elopement in Tuscany — no stress, just vibes.

Why Tuscany?

Tuscany is basically the main character of the Italian countryside. Think: rolling hills that look like they were painted by the gods, winding roads lined with cypress trees, medieval villages straight out of a storybook, and wine… like, really good wine.

Whether you’re the “say vows under an olive tree” type or the “get married at a villa and eat truffle pasta under fairy lights” kind of couple, Tuscany’s got you covered.

Best Time To Elope In Tuscany

Tuscany is always a good idea, but some seasons hit harder than others. Here’s the vibe check:

  • Late April – Early June: Wildflowers, warm days, and not too touristy yet.

  • September – Mid-October: Harvest season = wine, golden light, and all the cozy feels.

Skip July and August unless you love crowds, high temps, and melting in your wedding ‘fit.

Where to Elope in Tuscany (aka the Good Spots)

There are so many gorgeous pockets of Tuscany, but these are a few faves:

  • Val d’Orcia – Classic Tuscany. The kind of place that makes you gasp when you see it in real life.

  • Chianti Region – Vineyards, rustic charm, and wine tasting? Say less.

  • Cortona – Tiny hilltop town full of cobblestones and romance. (Under the Tuscan Sun fans, this is for you.)

  • Florence Countryside – A perfect mix of city access and countryside calm. Ideal if you want to explore after the “I do.”

Legal vs. Symbolic: Do You Have to Get Married in Italy?

Short answer: not really.

Getting legally married in Italy as a foreigner involves paperwork, translations, and meetings with local officials. It’s possible (and planners can help!) but a lot of couples opt for a symbolic ceremony in Italy and do the legal part back home.

Symbolic = freedom to get married wherever you want. On a cliff, in a vineyard, in your Airbnb garden — no rules, just romance.

Build Your Dream Vendor Team

Even if it’s just the two of you, having a solid team makes your elopement feel extra special and way less stressful.

  • Photographer – Find someone who gets your vibe. Candid, documentary-style, maybe even shoots a bit of film? Yes, please.

  • Planner – Especially if you don’t speak Italian. They’ll handle permits, locations, logistics, and probably save your sanity.

  • Florist – Wildflower bouquet with olive branches? We love.

  • Private Chef – Because you deserve a candlelit, five-course Italian meal after tying the knot.

Bonus points if you book a villa that offers elopement packages — they often include a planner, food, and stunning photo locations in one dreamy bundle.

Make It Yours

The best part of eloping? You can ditch the expectations and create a day that feels exactly right for you two. A few ideas:

  • Write your own vows and read them privately with a view.

  • Pack a vintage film camera and capture your own behind-the-scenes moments.

  • Rent a Vespa and explore the countryside together post-ceremony.

  • Have your dog as your witness (yes, many villas are pet-friendly).

  • End the night with wine and stargazing under fairy lights.

Where to Stay (aka Where to Wake Up in a Rom-Com)

Some dreamy stays that’ll make you want to move to Italy forever:

  • Villa Vignamaggio – Renaissance vibes and vineyard views for days.

  • La Bandita Townhouse – Cool, cozy, and right in the middle of the cutest hilltop town.

  • Castello di Vicarello – A literal castle with infinity pools and olive groves.

Pro tip: book early, especially in spring and fall — the good spots go fast.

Final Thought: Eloping in Tuscany Just Hits Different

Final Thought: Eloping in Tuscany Just Hits Different

This isn’t just about skipping the stress of a big wedding. It’s about slowing down. Being present. Waking up in a stone farmhouse, sipping espresso together, and promising forever with the hills of Tuscany as your backdrop.

So if you’ve been dreaming of something a little quieter, a little more intentional, and a whole lot more romantic—this is your sign. Tuscany’s calling. Go elope.

Just Engaged: Wedding Advice From Couples Who Have Been There

Just Engaged: Wedding Advice From Couples Who Have Been There

For the laid back + romantic

Wedding Tips From Couples Who Have Been There

Congratulations on your engagement! Embarking on this new chapter is exhilarating, but it can also feel overwhelming. To help you navigate the journey, I’ve gathered insights from couples who have shared their experiences and advice. Here’s a compilation of their top wedding planning tips!

1. Savor the Moment

Before diving into wedding planning, take time to enjoy your engagement. One couple emphasized the importance of “enjoying being engaged for a few weeks” before starting the planning process.

2. Discuss Budget and Priorities

Financial planning is a crucial first step. Sit down with your partner to determine a comfortable budget and identify your top priorities. As one user advised, “Decide how much you can comfortably spend… Then, with the budget in mind, what is your vision?”

3. Draft a Preliminary Guest List

Your guest list will significantly influence venue selection and overall costs. Creating a rough list early on helps in making informed decisions. A Redditor suggested, “Both of you work on a potential guest list KEEPING THE BUDGET IN MIND.”

4. Research and Book Key Vendors Early

Popular venues and vendors often book up quickly. It’s wise to secure your preferred choices well in advance. One couple shared, “We thought we could hold off on planning for a few months but most venues were booked… over a year in advance.”

5. Consider a Joint Email for Wedding Communications

To streamline communication with vendors and keep everything organized, set up a dedicated email address. As one user recommended, “Start a joint email address… We used that email for finding vendors, venues, and what not.”

6. Utilize Planning Tools and Resources

Leverage available tools to stay organized. A couple shared their experience: “This is the Wedding planning Spreadsheet my fiancé and I use to plan together. It’s 36 pages and takes you from engagement to your honeymoon.”

7. Communicate Openly with Your Partner

Ensure that both of you are on the same page regarding expectations and desires for your wedding day. Open communication helps in making decisions that reflect both your personalities and wishes.

8. Don’t Succumb to External Pressures

Remember, this day is about you and your partner. It’s essential to make choices that align with your vision, not just to satisfy others. As one Redditor advised, “Don’t give in to the family and societal pressure. It’s not about anyone else besides you two.”

9. Enjoy the Planning Process

While planning can be stressful, it’s also a unique experience. Take time to enjoy it and make memories along the way. One user reflected, “I’ve spent the majority of my planning focused on how stressful and expensive it is… I’m 3 months out and wish I’d focused on the excitement more.”

10. Be Flexible and Open to Changes

Things might not always go as planned, and that’s okay. Being adaptable will help you navigate any unexpected challenges that arise.

Embarking on this journey is a special time in your life. By taking these insights to heart, you’ll be well on your way to planning a wedding that reflects your love story. Remember, the most important aspect is celebrating the union between you and your partner. Happy planning!

How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Photographer for Your Wedding Day

How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Photographer for Your Wedding Day

For the laid back + romantic

How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Photographer for Your Wedding Day

Your wedding photographer plays a huge role in capturing one of the most important days of your life. Their style, personality, and expertise will influence how your wedding photos turn out, so choosing the right one is key. Here’s a guide to help you find the perfect photographer for your big day.

1. Define Your Photography Style

Before you start searching, determine the style of photography that resonates with you. If you love dreamy, heartfelt images that feel natural and cinematic, you might be drawn to:

  • Storytelling photography (candid moments, emotional depth, organic interactions)
  • Fine art photography (soft, romantic, film-like aesthetic)
  • Editorial storytelling (a balance of documentary and subtly guided poses)

Having a clear vision will help narrow down your choices. If you need help, check out the blog post on how to start a wedding photography moodboard.

2. Research & Explore Portfolios

Browse photographers’ websites, Instagram, and wedding blogs to see their work. Pay attention to:

  • Consistency in storytelling and editing
  • How emotions and connections are captured
  • Their ability to document intimate and in-between moments naturally

3. Read Reviews & Ask for Recommendations

Word of mouth is powerful! Ask recently married friends or wedding vendors for recommendations. Look for reviews that mention:

  • A photographer’s ability to make couples feel at ease
  • Their approach to capturing real, unscripted moments
  • How they tell a wedding day story from start to finish

4. Meet Your Photographer in Person or Virtually

Your photographer will be with you throughout your wedding day, so personality matters! Schedule a call or meeting to see if you connect. Ask about their approach to storytelling, capturing emotion, and creating a relaxed environment for couples.

5. Review Full Wedding Galleries

Social media highlights only show the best shots. Request full wedding galleries to see how they document an entire day, including:

  • Quiet, intimate moments
  • Natural interactions and emotions
  • Thoughtful compositions that reflect the couple’s love story

6. Discuss Pricing & Packages

Photography is an investment, and pricing varies based on experience, location, and package inclusions. Ask about:

  • Hours of coverage
  • Second shooters (for capturing multiple angles and reactions)
  • Engagement sessions (to get comfortable in front of the camera)
  • Travel (trust me you don’t want to be paying in addition to your package)
  • Album and print options (to preserve your memories beautifully)

Make sure you understand what’s included before signing a contract.

7. Confirm Availability & Book Early

Romantic storytelling photographers are often in high demand—sometimes booking up a year or more in advance! Once you’ve found the right fit, secure your date with a signed contract and deposit.

8. Trust Your Photographer & Enjoy Your Day

Once booked, trust their expertise! A great storytelling photographer will gently guide you when needed but will also let genuine, heartfelt moments unfold naturally. Relax, be present, and let them document the love and magic of your day.

How To Plan Your Wedding Photography Moodboard

How To Plan A Wedding Photography Moodboard

Your wedding photos should feel like you—a true reflection of your love story, style, and personality. One of the best ways to ensure your photographer captures your vision is by creating a wedding photography moodboard. I recommend this to EVERY COUPLE. Whether you’re drawn to dreamy film-like tones, candid storytelling, or a mix of editorial and documentary styles, a well-curated moodboard can help bring your wedding day aesthetic to life. Here’s how to plan your wedding photography moodboard effectively.

Creating Your Mood Board

1. Start a Draft Board on Pinterest

Before diving into specifics, create a draft board on Pinterest and freely add photos. Don’t be too picky—whatever catches your eye, add it! This will help you get a sense of the styles, colors, and compositions you’re naturally drawn to.

2. Categorize Your Board into Sections

Once you have a collection of images, refine your board by organizing it into sections. Consider creating categories like:

  • POSES – Ideas for natural, candid, or editorial-style portraits
  • EDITING – The color tones and overall aesthetic you love
  • BLACK AND WHITE – If you’re drawn to monochrome photography what do you like about it in black and white? close ups? or do you want a whole gallery in black and white?
  • STYLISTIC/VIBES – General mood and creative direction. Motion blur, crooked, film photos, high flash would all land in this category.
  • LIGHTING – If you love specific types of lighting, such as golden hour or moody indoor shots

If an image doesn’t fit into any category, it may not align with your vision, so consider removing it.

If your photographer doesn’t ask you for a pinterest board or inspiration, be weary. This is SO important to me and my couples I could not imagine shooting a wedding without it.

COMPOSITION is one last section that I ask to be added so I can add my own inspiration to it. This is fun because you can go through and delete what you hate but see photography from my eyes too. It leads to a beautiful camaraderie between us and united vision.

Now what?

4. Consider Your Wedding Venue and Season

Your wedding location and season will influence how your photos turn out. If you’re getting married in a bright summer vineyard versus a cozy winter lodge, consider how lighting and surroundings play a role. Choose images that reflect the setting of your actual wedding for the most accurate inspiration.

5. Share Your Moodboard with Your Photographer

Once you’ve finalized your moodboard, send it to your photographer! A great photographer will take inspiration from your board while still bringing their artistic touch to your wedding day. Be open to their creative interpretation while communicating what resonates with you.

6. Trust the Process & Enjoy Your Day

The best wedding photos happen when you feel comfortable and trust your photographer. Your moodboard is a guide—not a shot list—so allow room for spontaneity and authentic moments to unfold naturally.

By taking the time to plan your wedding photography moodboard, you’re setting the stage for images that truly feel like you. Happy planning!

Ready To Plan Your Wedding?

Choose your photographer after you start curating your wedding photos. This will lead you to the right person with the right mindset. Experience, art, client experience, editing will all lead you to the right person. I hope it’s me but if it’s not, have the best wedding day!

Photography At Resorts

Many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico have specific policies regarding the use of outside vendors, including photographers. These policies can vary significantly between resorts, and it’s essential to understand them before making any arrangements especially if you wish to work with me.

Common Policies:

  • Preferred Vendor Lists: Some resorts have agreements with specific photographers and may require couples to choose from this list. Opting for an outside photographer might incur additional fees or be restricted altogether.
  • Outside Vendor Fees: Many resorts allow external photographers but charge an outside vendor fee, which can range from a nominal amount to several hundred dollars. In some cases, this fee can be waived if the photographer stays on the resort property as a guest.
  • Day Passes: Resorts may require purchasing day passes for outside photographers to access the property during the event. This is a common practice and can be a more cost-effective solution.

Recommendations:

  • Contact the Resort Directly: Before finalizing any decisions, reach out to the wedding coordinator or management of your chosen resort to inquire about their specific policies on outside photographers.
  • Review Contracts Carefully: Ensure that all terms regarding photography are clearly outlined in your wedding agreement to avoid unexpected fees or restrictions.

By proactively addressing these considerations, you can ensure that your wedding photography aligns with your vision and avoids any unforeseen complications.
